CivicSpark is an AmeriCorps program administered by CivicWell and dedicated to building capacity for public agencies to address emerging environmental and social equity resilience challenges such as climate change, water resource management, affordable housing, and mobility. Each year we recruit Fellows to implement targeted sustainability and resilience projects supporting public agencies, while also building long-term capacity to ensure the work is sustained after their service year is completed. Since 2014, over 620 Fellows have provided over 900,000 hours of service to more than 320 local public agencies through over 875 projects. CivicSpark is currently in its ninth year of operations, and hosts fellows in three states (California, Colorado and Washington) with plans for additional expansion.

POSITION OVERVIEW

We are looking for a dynamic, multi-talented individual to join the CivicSpark team as Senior Program Manager. This role oversees day-to-day management and implementation of all aspects of the CivicSpark program, which currently consists of 14 team members and 100+ fellows, and provides support to the Program Director on program direction and expansion, strategic planning, operations, fundraising, communications and team supervision. The ideal candidate will be a motivated, detail-oriented individual with strong project management and organizational skills, and the ability to learn and apply new skills. This is an excellent opportunity to be involved and build expertise in program management and development of an AmeriCorps program, particularly in the fields of climate change, water resource management, affordable housing, and mobility.

This is a remote position with a preference for candidates in current CivicSpark program areas of California, Colorado, and Washington state. This position will require occasional travel in these regions and potential expansion areas.

 

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

 The CivicSpark Senior Program Manager will provide leadership support to the CivicSpark team on a variety of tasks, including the following. The ideal candidate must be able to skillfully execute ALL of the following responsibilities through the CivicWell DEI lens:

 Program Administration, Operations and Implementation

  • Support the CivicSpark Program Director with overall program administration, operations, and implementation
  • Provide supervisory support for the CivicSpark team, which currently consists of 5 managers and 7 coordinators
  • Assist the CivicSpark program implementation managers with partner and fellow engagement, including contracting, network calls and other activities.
  • Coordinate with the CivicWell finance and operations team on all aspects of program administration, including invoicing, billing, and contracting
  • Oversee the management and implementation of grants and contracts with CivicSpark funders including state service commissions and partners
  • Support the CivicSpark Program Director with managing, evaluating, and revising as necessary all program policies and procedures, program communication, partner engagement, fellow supervision, and local government participation.
  • Assist in the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of CivicSpark policies, processes, and workflows.

Fundraising and Recruitment

  • Lead partner and fellow recruitment processes including updating the CivicSpark recruitment outreach plan
  • Lead and/or participate in fundraising activities including partner and sponsorship research and proposal development
  • Support program expansion into new service areas
  • Assist the Program Director with developing a CivicSpark fundraising strategy and sustainability plan
  • Support grant reporting and funder engagement activities
  • Monitor existing and emerging trends in AmeriCorps program funding
  • Assist the CivicSpark Program Managers with the partner and fellow interview and matching processes
  • Support Alumni engagement via existing and new channels, such as the Alumni Board, coordinating Alumni speakers at major events, developing an Alumni-Fellow mentorship program, connecting Alumni with professional development opportunities, and/or leveraging alumni relationships to bring new resources to the program.

Diversity, Equity & Inclusion

  • Oversee implementation of the CivicSpark Racial Equity Action Plan
  • Support the CivicSpark team and fellows with identifying opportunities to integrate diversity, equity and inclusion into organizational activities and professional development

Communications

  • Oversee CivicSpark communications processes, including content development, newsletters, and marketing to potential partners and fellows
  • Represent CivicSpark in presentations, meetings, advisory committees, and written communications as needed.
  • Conduct market research on relevant trends in national service and identify new opportunities to promote CivicSpark.

 Training & Event Planning

  • Provide guidance to the Service-Learning Team on planning the program’s three major events (Orientation, Mid-Year Retreat, and Graduation) and other events
  • Support planning and implementation of the monthly Fellow training schedule, the Fellow Leadership Program, and AmeriCorps Service Days

 Other

  • Other duties as assigned by the CivicSpark Program Director

 

QUALIFICATIONS

We are searching for candidates with the following key attributes and qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree in Public Policy, Urban Planning, Business Administration, Political Science and Government, or a relevant field. A master’s degree is preferred.
  • At least three years of program administration, project management, operations and/or communications experience with increasing leadership responsibility.
  • Experience in fundraising and development activities in the nonprofit sector
  • Experience supervising and mentoring individuals and large teams, including hiring and onboarding.
  • Experience cultivating a culture of diversity and inclusion and advancing structural perspectives and improvements for equity and justice.
  • Experience managing multiple projects
  • Experience building strategic and programmatic partnerships with diverse coalitions
  • and networks.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Comfort with public speaking and facilitation.
  • Drive to integrate racial equity into all program areas
  • Ability to work well independently and as part of a team
  • Familiarity with, or ability to learn, Google Suite, Monday.com, AirTable, WordPress Formsite, and/or Zapier
  • Experience working in a nonprofit or government agency
  • Experience with AmeriCorps or similar service-oriented programs
  • Interest in learning about programs that build local community resilience

This position is full-time and exempt. The annual full-time starting salary range for this position is $80,000-$95,000 depending on qualifications.

  • Vacation: Ten days of paid time off accrued in years one and two / three weeks accrued during year three.

  • 401K retirement plan with an employer contribution which is currently up to 4% of salary. Full-time employees are eligible to participate in the plan after 90 days of employment and will become eligible for the 4% employer match after 1 year of employment.
